Abstract

The aerospace industry is maximising the performance of avionics systems and at the same time reducing their size, weight, power consumption, and cost (SWaP-C). This is due to the evolution of technologies such as integrated modular avionics (IMA), which allows multiple functions to be performed by a single computing unit. A significant standard for this scheme is ARINC 653, which allows multiple applications to execute in a secure and trustworthy fashion within the stringent constraints of DO-178C-compliant aviation environments. The focus to which the research intends to provide contributions is the interconnectivity of software-defined avionics modules (SDAMs) in a single integrated platform. Such SDAMs could include in-strument landing systems (ILSs), distance-measuring equipment (DME), an automatic dependent surveillance broadcast (ADS-B), and a transponder (XPDR), which are consolidated in one RFSoC 4x2 system. The heart of this system relies on PikeOS, a certified real-time operating system (RTOS) that fulfils some principles of DO-178C and ARINC 653 in order to ensure dependability and non-interference between modules.
