Spatiotemporal Mapping for Buildings Construction Site Planning and Control

Abstract

Most construction building projects are commonly planned using the Gantt/Precedence Diagram method. A time-based planning approach combining graphical representations and logical constraints. This method, in addition to numerous shortcomings widely discussed in the literature, neglects many important aspects, including the sequence of crews' work on different areas and the circulation and storage of materials on the construction sites, making conflict resolution more difficult. To solve these problems, mathematical, deterministic and stochastic, optimization techniques have been developed. However, these techniques are less viable for practical applications due to the complexity of the modelling of the scheduling parameters. Graphical modelling is a more appropriate solution because of its communication capability. Coordination and decision-making on construction sites become easier with space-temporal planning modelling, which integrates space, crews, equipment’s, materials and operational considerations. This paper maps the Chronographical spaciotemporal modelling elements to link spatial and temporal aspects for efficient labor turnover and linear production.
