Engine Performance Prediction for the Bombardier CRJ700 Regional Jet aircraft

Résumé

This paper focuses on modeling the propulsion performance of the Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet aircraft. For this purpose, high-precision flight tests were conducted using a Level-D Virtual Research Flight Simulator (VRESIM), developed by CAE and available at the Laboratory of Active Controls, Avionics, and Aeroelasticity (LARCASE). These flight tests were used for the identification and validation of a propulsion model. A mathematical model was subsequently developed in Matlab to analyze its dynamics across various flight phases, including takeoff, climb, cruise, and descent. This model enables the calculation of the net thrust and fuel flow of the CRJ700’s engines. Validation of the model was carried out using data from the Bombardier CRJ700 flight simulator. The engine performance model proved its accuracy within 5% error, except for flights close to the limits of the flight envelope, where the aircraft behavior becomes more difficult to predict.
