Abstract
The general rules of semi-liquid machining were investigated using a particulate-free 6061 aluminum alloy, a modified 6061 aluminum alloy with 21% of 120 μm silicon carbide particulates and a ZA27 with 21% of the same particulates. The microstructure, physical and mechanical properties, and the cutting mechanisms for these metallic matrix composites are discussed.
