For many years, it has become difficult to justify the construction of new electric transmission lines. It is now more important than ever to utilize the existing lines to their fullest. To attain this goal, this thesis proposes an algorithm that computes an optimal power flow with stability constraints. This algorithm uses the traditional angular criterion to establish if the grid stays stable during the transient period. However, this criterion isn’t the sole one considered. An additional minimal voltage criterion is used so the result of the algorithm is closer to the one that real grid operators like Hydro-Quebec have to respect. The algorithm proposes an iterative approach alternating between optimal power flow computing and dynamic simulation in order to converge to a safe optimal power flow.
