Abstract

Copper is an important metal because of many health hazards are associated with them. Its removal from the contaminated samples is of utmost importance. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of removing Cu(II) ions ,from waste west, using industriel by-product, specially spinet sawdust. Adsorption studies have been carried out by using Batch techniques. The effects of pH, metal concentration and sawdust particle size on the removal of Cu(II)ions have been studied. The results shows that the optimal adsorption was found at pH range 4.5-6, metal concentration range 24-28 mg/gl and particle size of sawdust range 0,15-0,85 mm. The adsorption isotherms studies shows that the sorption processes follows the Langmuir (1st version) Model. This result suggest the formation of monolayer coverage of Cu(II) ions at the surface of spinet sawdust. The experiment shows that one gram of spinet sawdust can, at the outside, fix up 2.793 mg of copper. Kinetic studies show that the copper sorption on spinet sawdust obeyed the pseudo second model. A desorption study and regeneration of the spinet sawdust has also included. The presence of additional substances in solution (NaCl, MgSO4, Pb and Zn), on the removal of copper, has been considered.
