The purpose of this study was to determine the functionality of the algorithm SIME (single machine equivalent) in the study of transient stability. The search for the critical time, see the changes of critical machines and the variation of the stability margin with respect to the variation of the critical time will be the main variables to study.
The study will use four power test systems: the network 3 machines-9 bars, the network 10 machines-39 bars, the network 17 machines-162 bars and the network 50 machines-145 bars. This study also includes the use of the classical model and the model of two-axis machines. The results will be validated with the commercial software PSS@E or with the results presented in the literature.
Regarding the results obtained, we can highlight that there is a linear behavior of the stability margin around the CCT (critical clearing time) and a variation in the number of critical machines in the search of CCT.
In conclusion, using a transient stability program in combination with the equal-area criterion, SIME efficiently computes the stability margin and the critical time of the system.
