Abstract

The rather rough competition in the field of manufacturing brings companies to improve or optimise their practices and manufacturing processes to manufacture cost effectively quality parts independently of their complexity. To be more competitive APN Inc, a company specialised in manufacturing high precision aeronautical parts, directed this master's degree project on the optimization of his manufacturing process. To achieve the objectives, a study of the industrial practices was made to better understand the needs for the company. This allowed elaborating recommendations and proposals to improve certain aspects of the process. Afterward, an analysis of the industry’s manufacturing practices was realized to establish a data base which summarizes the conditions of manufacturing by characteristics. A comparison of the cutting conditions used as compared to those recommended by tool manufacturers was made. Recommendations of improvement of the manufacturing practices were developed. For a better visualization, an elaboration of optimal cuttings conditions for high volume production characteristics was made. The elaboration of optimal route to realize certain manufacturing operations was proposed, and the associated gain was calculated. A data base of the best toolpath based on the material removal rate and manufacturing time was created.
