Annually, approximately 200 000 tons of glasses are generated in Quebec. According to ÉTS and its project partners (SAQ, ÉEQ, Mitacs, Recyc-Québec and the City of Montréal), 77%of these glasses are recovered by selective collection and thus constitute a large reserve of recyclable materials. The High Performance Bituminous Asphalt (EBHP) designed at ÉTS on the principle of optimization of the granular packing was chosen in order to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating recycled glass into bituminous mixes. The bituminous mixture EBHP - Glass was produced in the plant and implemented in a test section. Two trucks on the three produced were sampled during the production of this test section. The objectives of this study are to verify the homogeneity of this production, to determine the in situ performance of this mix, to verify whether the in situ performances are those expected according to the target design and finally to evaluate the impact of recycled glass On the performance of the EBHP. Characterization and compliance tests were carried out on the samples. The homogeneity of production was determined on the basis of bitumen (% b), maximum density (dmm), PCG compaction and mix gradation. The mechanical performances of the two sample batches were determined by thermomechanical tests. The in-situ performance of EBHP - Glass was verified using field cores and results from the FWD test. These results of the in situ mixing were compared with the results of the samples taken during the pavement construction. Finally, the influence of recycled glass on the performance of EBHP14 was determined after having produced a reference mix in the laboratory.
