The completion of building is becoming more and more complex and requires an awareness and understanding of sustainable development. At the current moment, the delivery of a building cannot only be functional to the customers’ needs, but also requires reflection on its themes (economic, social and environmental) to find out how it can be integrated into the design, construction, operation and occupancy of the building. To do so, it is important not only to optimize the building to generate low operating costs, but to consider the integration and synergy of passive and active measures. That is why the process requires a new approach and the knowledge and expertise that once were not necessary. Consequently, the adoption of integrated design process (IDP) is an answer to changing practices. Therefore, this thesis presents the development of a framework for IDP adapted to the Quebec context and designs a roadmap for the adoption of IDP based on maturity. To achieve these benefits, the methodology used corresponds to three main steps: defining the intentions, content and thematic analysis and validation strategy. In this regard, the analysis of content and themes has been made from three different sources (literature review, semi-structured interviews and "focus group") for the validation by data triangulation. These data largely address: integrated approaches and practices, roles and responsibilities of the actors involved and design charettes and the common links between the IDP and energy optimization. These analyses allowed the preparation of an integrated design guide. This Guide is a first in Quebec and represents a good opportunity to integrate environmental and energy aspects. Due to this research, the transition from current construction practices toward design approach that focus on reducing the environmental footprint of the built environment is facilitated.
