Abstract

This document gives an overview of the different multilevel topology as well as a new one that has been use in this study. This new topology can be use in inverter mode or rectifier mode. In both case, the control algorithm is explain in detail. Its stability will be demonstrated on three different platforms. First, using Matlab/Simulink and the SimPowerSystem library simulation has been made to determine to optimal value for the controller gain. Then a physical converter is controlled using the dSPACE board. Finally, the same control is implemented on a fast prototyping FPGA board. Using the three different platform allows to see the advantage and limitation of each. Also, if commercialised, the fast prototyping FPGA board would be much cheaper then the dSPACE system. The main goal of this converter is high efficiency; therefore we will emphasize the study on the total harmonic distortion and the switching frequency. In the rectifier mode, a power factor of one should also be obtained.
