Throughout the world, there are many people who do not have the use of an arm or a hand. The consequence of this handicap is the limitation in handling objects. The use of a prosthesis was the only solution to this problem. These prosthesis were unsophisticated and difficult to improve on.
The objective of this project is to cumulate the technological advances in robotics to create a prosthesis to help in the handling of objects. The prosthesis should be more agile and capable of restoring the lost sense of touch. The purpose of this project is to lean toward a haptic device capable of transmitting tactile exteroceptive events from the prosthesis to the patient. The goal was to find the best technique to reproduce the feeling of applied pressure on the skin. As well as the development of a device that can utilise twisted cables to create the linear movement of a piston.
To validate the device, tests were done with the aid of a control software developed with the MVC technique and a PID controller. The results showed that the haptic apparatus could be used on a prosthesis to reproduce the feeling of touch.
