Abstract

This thesis deals with ultracapacitor model for simulation of electrical systems. Simulation software has become inevitable part of design and development of products and process in engineering. Toolbox SimPowerSystems has been used, this toolbox is a part of simulation software Matlab/Simulink. Stern model has been chosen. Stern theory models electric double layer and capacitance between metal electrode and liquid electrolyte could be found. The model has been modified in order to model ultracapacitors and to be implemented in SimPowerSystems (SPS). The model is user friendly, major data could be found in manufacturer’s datasheet. Thus, experimental tests have been done and they have been compared with simulations. Two type of tests have been done, first one to identify ultracapacitors and secondly to load and unload ultracapacitors. Results show that maximal error is less than 5% and medium error is less than 2%.
