Blasting in urban areas is more and more frequent in our societies. Whether it concerns infrastructure repair work, the development of underground transport networks or the bringing together of residential areas, quarries or mining sites, pressure is increasing on the drill and blast industry with increasingly strict standards and growing citizen expectations. In this context, the ability to estimate the impacts of blasting becomes an issue to meet the need for increased precision on new sites.
As part of this research, blasting data from an urban quarry are analyzed over four years in order to integrate the effect of factors related to the configuration of blasting tests on the results of vibration induced by blasting. In addition, a reflection aid tool has been developed to facilitate the identification of the values for the drilling and blasting parameters with respect to the set conditions. The tool developed is then tested on a case study that presented boundary conditions of acceptability.
Processing of historical data from the quarry made it possible to establish a configurable "direction" factor for each blasting configuration. The integration of this factor characterized on the data of the years 2016-2018, demonstrated an improvement of the precision of the vibration estimates of 15% when it is applied to the data series for the year 2019. The structuring of the data associated with the development of the tool makes it possible to generate sets of values for the identification of blasting parameters, facilitating decision-making for the operator while ensuring that the risks of exceeding the threshold values are minimized.
