The scheduling of construction projects is one of the most important management functions as it directly influences the success of the work execution. Recently, different studies have been led and many tools have been created to combine Building Information Modeling (BIM) and traditional scheduling methods, in order to assist the realisation of construction timetables. However, these tools and methods are mainly intended to the design perspectives. When used to apprehend the scheduling of works in construction phases, they then require important efforts to revise the BIM model on the one hand, and the schedule on the other. Particularly, to characterize the spatial nature of the projects.
The Chronographical method developed within the MGPlan research laboratory offers a construction schedule modelling adapted to various work execution constraints. The goal of this research is therefore to create a communication strategy between the BIM models, the Chronographical method and the 4D simulation tools, in order to realize more effectively the scheduling as well as to simplify the creation of 4D BIM models.
In order to answer this problem, in-depth studies of the mechanisms of the Chronological method, the BIM modeling tools and the 4D simulation were led. On the basis of these studies, a communication strategy between those different components has been conceived. Tools have also been set up to support it. A study case of a hypothetical project has been conducted in order to test this strategy.
