Mobile Ad-Hoc network (MANET) is a self-configuring network composed of mobile devices (PC, laptop, PDA…). Each device in a MANET can send data without any dedicated infrastructure. In this technology, mobile device is considered as a router due to absence of a central component. To reach a given destination, only a routing protocol is needed to send data.
The Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol is a proactive routing protocol designed for Mobile Ad-Hoc Network. It relies on a set of designated to broadcast the network topology information and to forward traffic flows toward their destination. These nodes are known as the Multipoint Relay (MPR) nodes.
The main object in this thesis is to provide security mechanism to secure a specific extension of OLSR protocol called SC-OLSR. This extension proposed a novel mechanism to prolong network lifetime by deploying a cluster concept to reduce the number of relay node. To accomplish our objective, we proposed an intrusion detection mechanism (IDS) based on SCOLSR specifications. Each IDS node can detect malicious activity by analyzing and comparing exchanged packets with protocol specifications.
Our simulation results show that a tradeoff between security and network lifetime is possible. In fact, we argue that with our system, only few IDS nodes are needed to provide an acceptable security level.
