The thesis aims to describe the work done in the LARCASE’s wind tunnel and to find the experimental methodologies and test procedures that will be used with the wings of models currently in the laboratory. The methodologies and procedures presented here will help to prepare the wind tunnel tests of the MDO-505 project deformable Architectures and technologies for improving the performance of the wings, which will take place during 2015.
First, a brief history of subsonic wind tunnels will be made. The different sections of the Price-Païdoussis blower will be described with emphasis on their influence in the quality of the test chamber’s flow. Then an introduction to pressure, its measurement in wind tunnel tests and instruments used for wind tunnel tests LARCASE laboratory will be described. Particular attention will be paid to the operation mode, the installation, the measurement and the detection of frequencies and sources of error when using high-precision Kulite sensors as the XCQ-062 series. Finally, procedures and methodologies developed for testing in the LARCASE’s Price-Païdoussis wind tunnel will be used on four different types of wings.
The paper New methodology for wind tunnel calibration using neural networks - EGD approach on a new way to predict the flow characteristics inside the Price-Païdoussis blower is in Appendix 2 of this document. This paper focuses on the creation of a multilayer neural network and its training. Then, a comparison of the results of the neural network was done with simulated values with Fluent software.
