This document, evaluate the impact of ten representative test conditions of aircraft engines in Pratt and Whitney Canada facility Longueuil. It validates the prior study conducted by Odotech firm, identifies the worst scenarios and their causes. Finally, it proposes solutions to comply with Regulation 20 of Montreal.
This study compare California Puff (CALPUFF) dispersion modeling system results to those of a previous study conducted for the same area using AMS/EPA Regulatory model (AERMOD). CALPUFF was coupled with Weather Research and Forecating a prognostic meteorological model. We noted in our work a difference of 2 to 10 by simulating odours with CALPUFF and AERMOD. Other simulations performed every 10 minutes to account for the theory that the odors are perceived in very short time intervals. Through simulations of many scenarios at the same time, we evaluate the effect of pollutants additivity. Finally, sea breeze, highway 20 and engine thrust influence on expected pollutants is highlighted.
The sensitivity analysis with parameters such as height, diameter of the stack, temperature and speed of gases, identifies the data that the industry can use to reduce at 1.24 o.u./m3 maximum concentration; and protect the air quality for local residents.
