In order to increase the energy efficiency of RF power amplifiers, the use of hardware reconfiguration mechanisms has been suggested in the literature. In such circumstances, the non-linear effects may worsen to the point where the input/output curve of the amplifier
becomes non-monotonic.
Software predistortion techniques allow improving the linearity of RF power amplifiers. Some of them take the memory effect into account. This is the case of a NARMA predistortion method which is particularly useful because of its ease of use in a development environment.
In the case of an amplifier whose characteristic is non-monotonic, it is difficult to obtain a NARMA predistortion model quickly in a deterministic fashion. After a mathematical analysis of the problem, this work introduces an explicit equation that allows to quickly and deterministically computing a NARMA predistortion module. This equation has been translated into an algorithm that has been tested in a simulation.
Finally, the design of a partially implemented predistortion system is detailed. The purpose of this system is to accelerate development by providing a flexible and easily configurable system.
