Abstract

The Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) used to extract ground heat from the borehole. In order to ensure the energy needs at a relatively low cost, we explore the possibility of extracting heat from the piles system in which are implanted polyethylene pipes, then one can reduces the expensive cost of boreholes. After reviewing the analytical models of vertical geothermal heat exchangers, we analyzed the thermal responses of these different models. Using the Pilesim software, the model of the new building, residence students of the ETS-Montreal was simulated. This building consists of 90 piles supporting of effective length of 18 m, 300 mm diameter and the conductivity of the soil is measured in-situ to 2.3 W /mK. The heat pump of average COP 3.3 can extract to the maximum in winter 101 W / m while injecting summer 59 W / m. As results, we note that for 614 MWh of heating needs, 54% are satisfied with the system of piles. As for the 91.1 MWh cooling requirements, 72% of needs are provided by geocooling. The restis covered by the heat pump thanks to its reversible operation. Afterwards the thermal responses obtained by Pilesim were compared with Matlab code using the model solid cylindrical source developed by Man et al. (2010). A profitability study ensures that the project on a life of 20 years is profitable. For a MARR of 9%, the IRR obtained was 9.11 and the period of return on investment is estimated to 12 years.
