Résumé

Industry 4.0 is a key driver of innovation for manufacturing companies. However, the literature remains limited in providing methods and tools to support the effective implementation of Industry 4.0 projects, particularly for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs). To fill this gap, this article proposes a new framework, supported by a proof of concept, that integrates different simulation technologies - including computer simulation, virtual commissioning and digital twins - to facilitate process development of industrial production systems. Drawing on bi-directional data flows and interoperable technologies such as OPC UA and MQTT, the proposed approach illustrates how different simulation technologies can be used in an integrated way to help transform industrial processes to effectively meet Industry 4.0 requirements.
