This thesis focuses on the development of a roadmap framework specifically tailored to the needs of Quebec manufacturers. The manufacturing sector, a cornerstone of Quebec's economy, faces significant challenges in an era of heightened global competition and pressures associated with globalization. These challenges not only impact the ability of companies to remain competitive but also their capacity to meet local consumer expectations by bringing the production of goods closer to Quebec markets.
The global COVID-19 crisis underscored the fragility of international supply chains, highlighting the urgent need for Quebec manufacturers to enhance their resilience and autonomy. This context has also emphasized the importance of digital transformation as a strategic lever to address these challenges effectively.
Furthermore, the establishment of the Industrial Expertise Center (IEC) in Longueuil, known as DigifabQG, provided another promising avenue for exploration. This center, designed as a space for demonstration and support, applies theoretical models, such as the diffusion of innovation model, to maximize the impact of visits by manufacturing business leaders. The goal is to facilitate the adoption of digital technologies by showcasing their relevance, feasibility, and tangible benefits for companies.
To support this transformation, this research explores several complementary approaches. First, the development of an artificial intelligence proof-of-value (AI POV) was undertaken, leveraging established tools for root cause analysis to address specific challenges faced by manufacturing companies. This approach aims to demonstrate the tangible benefits of adopting digital technologies through targeted use cases.
Also, a digital transformation roadmap was developed through a series of collaborative workshops involving cross-functional teams and utilizing heatmaps. These tools help visualize digital priorities and opportunities while actively engaging stakeholders in the decision-making process. This approach fosters a better understanding of the necessary steps for transformation and promotes greater buy-in from leaders and teams.
In conclusion, this thesis offers a range of complementary avenues to support Quebec manufacturers in their digital transformation journey. By providing practical tools, robust methodologies, and solutions adapted to local realities, it aims to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience, and autonomy of the manufacturing sector while supporting Quebec’s economy in an ever-evolving global environment.
