Nowadays, in addition to the costs directly involved, the stakes of the maintenance function are increasingly critical for the company. While promising and attracting interest, the maintenance 4.0 approach is receiving a mixed reception in the enterprise. About 20% of companies expect to implement solutions on a large scale by 2022. Their leaders say that adopting IIoT solutions poses many challenges from both a human resources, financial risk and technology perspective. In addition, only 26% of IIoT initiatives are considered complete successes. This brief first presents the different concepts of industrial maintenance including Maintenance 4.0. It then details the factors influencing the implementation decision. Among other things, it is observed that the human resources challenge is considered more important, followed by financial risks. The technological aspect comes in third place with significantly less importance. Regarding human resources, the acceptability of such a project is crucial. According to Johansen (2017), IoT and Maintenance 4.0 may seem like a technology issue, but human factors such as culture, organization, and leadership are critical to the success of the project. A tool to assess the impact beforehand is presented and tested on a technology tool implementation project. The positioning of maintenance in the company is described and some technology implementation projects are analyzed. Finally, a survey on the proposed implementation approach was conducted with stakeholders in the field. The entry-level approach was designed to allow maintenance teams to start and progress in 4.0 maintenance. It facilitates the introduction of 4.0 by addressing its main inhibitors, including human factors and financial risks. This approach is particularly aimed at maintenance teams in SMEs, outsourced services and pilot projects before a major implementation. In addition, the use of IIoT sensors can be an interesting contribution to problem solving processes. Finally, a forecast report supporting the knowledge value chain is proposed. This report provides a follow-up of the state of the equipment and the efficiency of the maintenance interventions. Created in R language, it is adapted to meet the needs of the company and its level of analysis capabilities.
