This thesis deals with organisational innovation as a lever for the productivity and competitiveness of companies.
The objectives of this study are: understand how organizational innovation influences productivity and competitiveness in organizations, determine the factors that allow companies to have a successful product development process.
To conduct this study, we used two qualitative approaches.
1. The first, which deals with Hypothesis 1, involves a content analysis of a corpus of 50 relevant academic articles collected from the Compendex Database. This approach aims to determine the relationship between a culture of innovation focused on the overall strategy of organizations and productivity.
2. The second approach examined under Hypothesis 2 involves two case studies: Google and Desjardins Group. The aim of these studies is to understand whether companies that have established successful organizational innovation are more likely to have a successful new product development process.
The research results allowed us to draw some conclusions:
The academic articles studied do not show a tangible link between the culture of innovation and business productivity. The analysis shows in the second iteration a relation of convergence of the variables (innovation culture and productivity) towards the organizational structure. This discovery is in line with a certain stream of scientific literature which thinks that the impact of a culture of innovation on factors of production is difficult to demonstrate. This observation is sufficient proof that the field of organizational innovation remains unexplored despite the great potential it contains.
The case studies of Google and Desjardins Group showed a contrast between the two organizations. Google, which is a multinational renowned for its deeply rooted organizational innovation and encouraged to better product development strategies than Desjardins Group. Although these 2 organizations do not act in the same field, the analysis clearly shows that Google, thanks to innovation strategies that take their sources from its organizational innovation, has a much more mature and customer-oriented product development process. This results in the commercialization of a panoply of globally competitive products.
This study made it possible to highlight two important conclusions.
1. Organizational innovation is a field that is still poorly studied, but particularly important for understanding the interactions between the concepts of innovation culture and the factors of productivity and competitiveness.
2. Organizational innovation is an important lever for companies wishing to set up an efficient process for developing new products.
In an era where companies are called upon to reinvent themselves to ensure their survival, it becomes particularly important for researchers to deepen their knowledge in this area of IO to enable organizations to understand the importance of organizational innovation.
