The growth in urban population has led to a high demand for construction. Contractors managing these construction projects are facing many challenges related to inefficiencies in logistics operations. The supply chain of these projects is separated and uncoordinated which can lead to higher cost and lower productivity on site. Add to that construction supply chain is subject to fragmentation and often described as complex and lacking integration.
In this project, we study the construction supply chain in the urban areas. The problem can be modeled as a MILP problem ; thus, we focus on the role of the use of consolidation centers as a logistic solution to optimize logistic operations and minimize costs in a collaborative scheme between the construction supply chain actors. In the construction industry, these solutions are still unexplored compared to other industries. Thus, we aim to study their impact on material flows to coordinate material flows and reduce congestion due to construction materials supply chains. In this problem, we optimize supplier selection decisions, construction consolidation centers decisions as well as construction projects scheduling optimization, in a multi-period multi resource, and multi-project two-echelon construction supply chain.
